What Is Ibuprofen for Adults?

Whether you’re experiencing back pain, headache or symptoms of the cold and flu, Ibuprofen is is an ingredient that relieves minor aches and pains and reduces fever.

MOTRIN® contains ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or (NSAID). The Ibuprofen in MOTRIN® works by disrupting the release of prostaglandins, which the body produces in response to injury. These can cause pain and inflammation.

When using MOTRIN®, always read and follow instructions on each product label carefully before taking any medication.

The dosage instructions for each MOTRIN® Adult product are directed towards adults and children over 12 years old. For information on children or infant dosage, you can consult our children + infants' dosage chart.

Do not increase dosage more than directed, and always keep the outer carton of MOTRIN® products.

How Much Ibuprofen Can You Take in a Day?

The maximum ibuprofen dosage for adults can vary based on the specific MOTRIN® product being used. Generally, for most single-ingredient MOTRIN® products (products that contain just ibuprofen as an active ingredient and do not combine ibuprofen with other active ingredients), it is recommended not to exceed 6 tablets or capsules within a 24-hour period unless directed by your healthcare provider. However, for specialized formulations such as MOTRIN® IB Migraine Relief Liquid Gel Caps and MOTRIN® PM Caplets Sleep Aid, the limit is restricted to a maximum of two caplets in a 24-hour span.

It is crucial to adhere to the specific guidelines provided for each product and not exceed the recommended dosages unless directed by your healthcare provider. For precise dosage information, you should always read and follow the product label.
